Merddin's New Tanks -2003

This illustrated tale was originally written as it happened over the Christmas period of 2003 to provide a blow by blow account for those not with us in Wales.

The plan is to reshow it here for awhile and then it will move to be part of the full story of the rebuild
 
This report was posted on the 29th December. Nothing happened the day before because we all went on the annual staff and volunteers Christmas Piss Up train hosted that year by the W&L.
 

Today's report is quite brief because we have been very busy and I have not taken many pictures as i have spent most of the day welding.

 

Why nothing happened Yesterday

We went on a jolly to Welshpool for a double headed mixed drinking train

Drilling new mounting bracket that fasten the tanks to the engine

As the tank is turned around the welds are dressed with a grinder

Biggest turnout of volunteers today so there was lots of grinding of plates going on ready for assembly

Will it fit?

The first tanks os offered up to Merddin. Will it fit?

It fits

Yes the tanks fits and briefly the tank was on the engine for the mounted brackets to be fixed in place. They were bolted to the enfine amd with the tanks centered they were welded to the tanks.

Theft

Someone nicked my camera and caught me welding. Once the tank was off the engine it has been laid flat so the back can be finished off.

 

Since the tanks was on the engine it has been laid on its face as can be seen in the last picture. Tomorrow it will be upside down to allow some holes to be drilled and then we will be painting it. Tank two is progressing well on the jig although i didn't get round to taking any pictures later in the day
